Dark ruby. Pronounced aromas of ripe strawberry & blue fruits & floral herbs. Flavors of strawberry, dark spice & some meat.
Full body, medium tannins & moderate acidity.
A native Southern Rhone grape prodominately used as a blending grape in Rose wines from Provence Southern France as it pairs well with Grenache, Syrah & Mourvedre in France.
Also produced in CA from some of the oldest vines known anywhere, producing a seriously extracted wine with intensive meaty flavors.

Was known as Hermitage in South Africa and was crossed with Pinot Noir to create Pinotage.
